HIGH SCHOOL BOWLING

Today, The Ohio High School Athletic Association governs one of the nation’s most robust varsity bowling programs and members of the Greater Cincinnati Bowling Proprietors Association can be proud that their vision and support laid the foundation for this phenomenon.

Today, 248 high schools in Ohio field Boys and Girls varsity bowling teams, including 52 schools in the Cincinnati area. Virtually every bowling center in the state now supports this program, recognizing the validation it brings to the sport. Schools love bowling because everyone can learn to bowl. Gender, size, speed and strength don’t restrict participation, which allows every student the chance to learn a lifetime sport. At a time when school budgets are tightest, bowling brings value like no other sport—no facility or equipment costs, synergies of scheduling these boys and girls sports together saves transportation expenses as well as minimal uniform costs.

However, the overriding reason that bowling was the fastest sport to become recognized by the OHSAA is the response from the teens—they love it!
